Summary

From the bestselling author of The Best of Friends comes a heart-stopping psychological thriller about the shades of truth and the power of lies in the wake of one mother’s unspeakable loss。

Therapist turned stay-at-home mom Jules Hart’s idyllic suburban life shatters when she crashes her car into an icy lake。 Her son and another teenage boy plunge into the water with her, but Jules can only manage to save one—the wrong one。

Reeling from the death of her son, Jules spirals into a violent and unstable mental state。 Ten months after the accident, she’s still trying to reckon with the fact that she rescued Isaac Greer, another woman’s child, when Isaac suddenly vanishes。

Jules finds herself at the center of a massive police investigation。 While she harbors her own dangerous secrets, Jules is adamant that she didn’t take Isaac。 But then who did? Is Isaac the victim of a dangerous killer who’s been targeting boys in the Midwest? Or is someone else pulling the strings in this deadly game?

4/5 StarsThis is my first ever thriller type book and I have to say I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down。 I read along with the audio on KU and when I couldn’t follow along I was listening almost all day。 The ending was a little disturbing and not what I expected at all。 From the beginning I had a theory and god was I wrong。 All in all this was an amazing read and I highly recommend it if you like twisted thriller。 I will definitely be reading more thrillers in the future!

I'll start off by saying that I love Lucinda Berry。 I've read several of her books and have several more on my shelf to read。 I immediately purchased her new book and read it as soon as it arrived。 This one was not my favorite of hers, unfortunately。 The title is apt, and has multiple meanings as far as this book is concerned。 This story is about the grief experienced by two mother's - one whose son died in a car accident and the other whose son survived the same car accident but whose life was I'll start off by saying that I love Lucinda Berry。 I've read several of her books and have several more on my shelf to read。 I immediately purchased her new book and read it as soon as it arrived。 This one was not my favorite of hers, unfortunately。 The title is apt, and has multiple meanings as far as this book is concerned。 This story is about the grief experienced by two mother's - one whose son died in a car accident and the other whose son survived the same car accident but whose life was forever altered by it。 As a mother, I can certainly relate to the pain at the though of losing my child, whether literally or figuratively。 What I cannot relate to is the extreme reaction of one of the mothers。 I mean EXTREME。 Overall, the book was a slow burn。 Much slower than Berry's other books。 I didn't find myself drawn to the book or to read the next chapter like I usually do。 It was redundant for about 2/3 of the book and I was bored。 I didn't love any of the characters and was ready for it to move along。 There were also numerous plot lines happening at the same and then whole nother plot line that was thrown in at the end。 I may be in the minority but I really liked the ending。 It was the best part of the book。 I'll continue to read Lucinda Berry's books but hopefully they'll be more Berry-like than this one。 Also, major trigger warnings! Death of child, suicide, mental illness。 。。。more

Loved this which is surprising since I didn't like any of the main characters。 I didn't like Jules or Amber or Mark。 Jules was a grief stricken mother who really took things to the extreme。 Amber and Mark both kept some major secrets from each other。 Things that if out in the open at least had a potential chance to help Isaac。 I liked how the whole story is told from the parents perspective。 You don't see that alot。I did not see what was really was going on with Isaac coming。 I didn't suspect at Loved this which is surprising since I didn't like any of the main characters。 I didn't like Jules or Amber or Mark。 Jules was a grief stricken mother who really took things to the extreme。 Amber and Mark both kept some major secrets from each other。 Things that if out in the open at least had a potential chance to help Isaac。 I liked how the whole story is told from the parents perspective。 You don't see that alot。I did not see what was really was going on with Isaac coming。 I didn't suspect at all。 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review。This is the third book I've read of Berry's, and of course I really enjoyed it! Off the Deep End is a twisty psychological thriller with a complex plot and well-written characters。 This book is told from two POV, which I love hearing from two different characters! It definitely adds to the suspense! The ending was not what I expected, and the twists kept me guessing throughout。 Highly recommend! Who should read this? Someone who is only looking for something where the plot is moving。 Because how the book starts and how it ends connect but how it gets there is a wild wild ride。 The two main characters (the caucasity) are annoying but not enough to make me stop wanting to know how this story ends (listening to this was the best choice instead of reading it, I would’ve DNF at the beginning)。

I’m not sure I should keep taking recommendations from TikTok。

Such a good book! So gut wrenching and the twists were so good。 This is the second book I have read from this author and I’m such a big fan。

She just sounds like a mother who is afraid of her child。 I did however enjoy getting a glimpse into Jules’ twisted mind post accident。 I enjoyed her therapy sessions and to get a glimpse into the mind of someone who is that mentally ill and to see the delusion she lived in。 Not sure why Isaac agreed to the pregnancy if he truly was just using Jules as a cover。 Just to appease her maybe? The entire ending is random if I’m being honest。 The author leaves out mention or clues to the violent online world Isaac created until you’re almost finished with the book。 There was no leading up to the violent ending。 It was just *insert massacre here” and let’s hope issacs attitude in previous chapters helps support this。 I’d like to know what happened to the Dog Snatcher since he just falls to the wayside。 Was he found? Was he a product of Isaac and his online followers? I would have liked to have delved a little deeper into that story line。 This was the intended storyline that should have been followed。 。。。more

Kindle Unlimited audiobook。 Wow! I think the fact that Lucinda Berry is a child therapist really adds so much to her books。 This one was twisted in a somewhat realistic way。 The end was quite sad but I think that made it so much better。 The characters were pretty well developed considering it’s a short book。

Becca Wilson

Lucinda does it again! The plot alone is a crazy scenario, then Isaac goes missing? Lucinda takes you on a journey of what happened, where could he be, and most importantly, who is to blame? Really loved this book and another win from the author!

I loved this book。 I was utterly hooked。 The only part I think was poorly done is the connection between jules's story and Isaac's disappearance。 By the end I felt like I was reading who books that had little in common。 WTF did I just read? I loved this book! Perfectly paced to keep me listening all day and into the night till I finished it。 While missing children isn't an uncommon theme, she did it with enough of a twist to surprise me。 I felt that some of the relationships could have been fleshed out more but I imagine this is how the author wanted us to see them。 A lot of info。。。but not everything。 Unreliable narrator- maybe。 Love? What does love mean in this case? The other thing is that the ending bothered me。 Again, I am sure I loved this book! The other thing is that the ending bothered me。 Again, I am sure the author meant it to leave us with questions。 I just really wish we could have found out more about where each character ends up。 I can't list my questions without spoiling it so I'll leave it at that。 It wasn't that I didn't like the ending, I just wanted more information。The biggest flaw to me was the forensic psychologist。 Was he professional and brilliant or the dumbass as the narrator described? I waited for the answer but never got it。 As a psychologist myself, I had to just ignore that whole relationship and assume we were just seeing him through the eyes of a delusional character。 Someone in a facebook group posted that we should stop what we're doing and read this book。 I wish I knew who that was to thank her。 Best book I've read in awhile。 。。。more

another incredible thriller! Just what I expected and then again, completely unexpected。 This book started one way and took a crazy turn in a completely different direction and I loved every demented second of it。

👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Another fantastic thriller by @lucindaberryauthor Devoured this book in less than a week, as it was so captivating! As a mother, I think I literally held my breath reading most of it - just, wow! Chilled to the core。

Becky Evans

Not my favorite by Lucinda Berry…I will say the book definitely kept my attention and I wanted to figure out what happened, but I think there was too much going on in the story。 A car accident, a kidnapping, a school shooting, inappropriate relationship with a minor…there was just too much going on and made the story too convoluted。

Brit

I really did enjoy this book, the only reason i am rating this a 3 star is because of the ending。 I felt like the ending was very random considering the other theory 90% of the book。 I LOVE Lucinda Berry as an author and i think she writes very good thrillers。 I just really did not like the ending on this one, and i feel like it was rushed and random。

Destiny Rogers

I loved the concept of this book and it was a nice little mystery/psychological thriller to listen to。 There were quite a few twists and reveals within the story。 Some of them I really liked and then others I felt were stretching it but overall I thought this was a good story。

*TRIGGER WARNINGS: child grooming, suicide, school shootings, sexual abuse I enjoyed this book, lots of triggers to be aware of though。

Nicole Anderson

Extremely disappointing。 Also gross and unnecessary elements。 No thanks。

Kendra Desroches

Stuck between 3 and 3。5 stars。 The ending was A LOT。

Constance Yeager

twists and turnsMany twists and turns and an unexpected ending。 I couldn’t put the book down! Very sensitive topics and could be triggers for some people

Rosemary

I have to say I was disappointed in this book。 I gave it a 3 because there was a couple twists that helped toward the end but it was not a book that I easily was able to read。

Grace

I don’t know why I just didn’t love this one。 It was a quick read and kept me guessing but I just wasn’t a huge fan of the story。

Kerri

This book was full of tragedy, right from the beginning。 A horrible accident that forever changed the lives of the survivors。 This was a quick read and had a few big surprises that I wasn’t expecting。 There were parts that were totally unrealistic, but not so much that it ruined the storyline。

2。5 ⭐️ I have pretty much loved everything from Lucinda Berry, so I truly wanted to love this book。 I was so excited, but left a little bit disappointed。 In the middle, I was completely over it。 Thank goodness, I had it free off kindle as if I had a paperback it would have been put down and not looked at again。 A lot of reviews said the ending was random but I don’t think it was, Issac was the outcast after all and Berry does like her twists。。 For that, I liked it。 Jules and Amber were annoying, 2。5 ⭐️ I have pretty much loved everything from Lucinda Berry, so I truly wanted to love this book。 I was so excited, but left a little bit disappointed。 In the middle, I was completely over it。 Thank goodness, I had it free off kindle as if I had a paperback it would have been put down and not looked at again。 A lot of reviews said the ending was random but I don’t think it was, Issac was the outcast after all and Berry does like her twists。。 For that, I liked it。 Jules and Amber were annoying, over the top and just unnecessary in parts, I think it should have been written mostly in Issac pov with chapters here and there from the mothers。 Berry writes better in a child’s perspective and I think it shows in her latest work。 Any adult pov comes across as immature and annoying from this book, Under Her Care and others。 Maybe it’s meant to be like that? But I just can’t get through it。 I liked the idea of this book, I love the topics that she picks and her writing style。 I’m just not getting that challenge anymore from reading her books。 I want to be shocked, I want boundaries to be pushed。。 I want to be rethink EVERYTHING but currently, I’m not even that invested。 。。。more

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review。 A very interesting storyline not what I was expecting。 Highly recommended, somewhat of a twist at the end。
